Hey guys! I have been having the most fun. Today we slept in late and had a nice brunch around 11:00 am. We decided to head over to a French event, in uptown Manhattan, called Bastille Day. We entered a mob of people. We were surrounded by booth selling everything from scarves to wine to macaroons. I mention macaroons for a very special reason.
What you may not know about me is that I am addicted to baking and want to make a career out of it. I would like to one day own and operate my own successful bakery. I am also addicted to watching several baking shows such as Cake Boss and Cup Cake Wars. For those of you who do not know, cupcake wars is a show where for bakers compete to win $10k for their cucakery. One of the judges on this show is my favorite chef. Chef Florian is a world renowned French pastry chef who owns Mad Mac Macaroons. This is a very successful macaroon and pastry shop. Chef Florian sold me macaroons!!!!! I even got a picture with him!
"Chef Florian? Can I have a picture with you?"
"Yes! Come over here"
*I hold phone up*
Florian asks, "Ahh! So we are going to do this selfie style?"
He was so kind! It was an amazing experience. After more walking around Bastille Day, we took a long leisurely walk through central park where we saw several amazing artists drawing people. Next we headed into midtown where we attended a BYOB painting class and painted a daisy. The class was incredibly fun. They played well-known '80s music. The whole place had a very cool vibe.
Afterwards, we went to dinner near Union Square, at a restaurant called The Pavilion. I order the spinach artichoke ravioli. And, yes. It was just as good as it sounds. Before we got to the restaurant, we stopped at a large gathering of people in the street. We then realized that they were all waiting for the Manhattan Hinge. This is a semi-annual phenomenon that occurs. The sunsets between two buildings perfectly that it lights up the whole street. And I got to be there!!!
Later we walked to an ice cream shop. This shop is close to our condo and every night we see a massive line trailing out the door of this ice cream parlor. So, we decided to stop. The place was called Morgenstern's Finest Ice Cream. Granted, it was very good. However, I don’t think I would wait another 45 minutes just for ice cream.
I had a wonderful day full of laughter and joy. I'm so grateful to have this experience and cannot wait to attend my first day of pastry school tomorrow.
Until then,
Gigi
